This is the online home of bestselling children's author and educator Babs Bell Hajdusiewicz (hi-doo-SHEV-its), M.S.Ed., whose publishing credits include more than 100 children's books, classroom textbooks and kits, and more than 350 poems and songs for children, parents, and teachers. Her latest title, a picture book, Sputter, Sputter, Sput!, was published in 2008 by HarperCollins.

Babs brings four decades of educational experience to her appearances at workplaces, schools and conferences. Her passion is literacy, and her mission is to transfer that passion to children directly and indirectly by involving the entire family and the entire learning community.

Babs' professional specialty is Oral Language, the often-overlooked foundation for literacy. "The stronger a child's oral language development, the greater their literacy success," she says. "Oral language stimulates thinking and reasoning, and it starts even before your child begins to talk. It's also a tool that every parent, regardless of educational attainment, socio-economic environment, or just plain busyness, can own and use daily."

The author and editor of many classroom materials and textbooks, Babs developed Parenting4Literacy™ to give parents oral-language skills that enhance children’s literacy and reading comprehension; Pee Wee Poetry™ to introduce children ages 2-9 to a love of oral language and the printed word; and WOW Words™ for building powerful vocabularies at any age.

Currently at work on two books -- one a teacher resource book on developing oral language, and the other on WOW Words -- Babs writes a family literacy blog at www.parenting4literacy.net about the power of conversation to increase children's literacy.
